As the old saying goes, " better late than never." No matter what happens, however, the combination of Fortnite and Gangnum Style is too perfect for Epic Games to pass up.

Still the world could be surprised by the sudden resurgence of the nine-year-old song thanks to a four-year-old game. This would make sense considering that Gangnam Style already had its time to shine back in 2012. So while the Gangnam Style dance may be recognizable to many Fortnite players, it will likely be considered a neat retro inclusion instead of something as iconic as The Floss. Most people change drastically between the ages of 15 and 24. As of 2021, it is estimated that over half of Fortnite's current players are between the ages of 18 and 24, making the oldest gamer in that demographic 15 when Gangnam Style came out. While the emote seems to fit into game's aesthetic perfectly, it is unclear exactly how it will land with the game's main player base. The reaction to the announcement was overwhelmingly positive, but there were a few comments that suggested some Fortnite players did not recognize what they were seeing. Fortnite's official North American Twitter account retweeted the video, suggesting that the emote will come to all versions of the game around the world. While the famous song does not accompany the dance display, there is no doubt what the characters are doing.

The announcement of Gangnam Style's inclusion was fittingly made in a short video demonstrating the new emote posted by the official Twitter account for Fortnite Korea. Both also became synonymous with certain dance moves, making the upcoming pairing between the two media seem all the more sensible. There are a lot of similarities between Fortnite and Gangnam Style when it comes to their sudden rise to the top of pop culture. In just one year after launch, Fortnite could boast well over 100 million players and this was without any name recognition prior to the game's release. Now the two media giants will come together as the battle royale is set to incorporate the well known dance from the Gangnam Style music video as one of its emotes. Five years before Fortnite took over pop culture for a time, the song Gangnam Style did the exact same thing.
